    Providing human resources support for organizations operating in the hot Puget Sound economy is challenging. Whether you are in the private for-profit sector, a nonprofit organization, or a government agency, you face competition for staff with essential skills, rising housing costs that cause potential and current employees to consider the effects of long commutes on their quality of life, and increasing compensation expenses.  How will new industries, companies, and technologies affect our existing businesses? What are the implications of such changes for human resource management in your own organizations?  As a member of your organization’s leadership team, you are expected to acquire and interpret information about the general business environment so that you can contribute to your organization’s strategic plan and develop your human resources strategic and operational plans.

    James Peyton, PhD, Highline College economics instructor and Larry Yok, DPhil, Adjunct Instructor in Highline’s Human Resource Certificate program, will discuss current Puget Sound regional economic and employment trends.  At the end of this presentation you will be better prepared to discuss organizational strategies with your senior management colleagues based on current regional economic and demographic data and develop effective talent acquisition and retention programs  to recruit and retain workforces that support your business plans.
