      During SHRM’s recent Annual Conference & Exhibition, we had more than 6,000 attendees stop by our SHRM Certification Lounge and exhibition booth to learn more about our new SHRM Certified Professional and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) competency-based certifications. I was very encouraged by the interaction. Once our attendees had their questions answered, they understood the value a competency-based certification would have for them and their success as HR professionals.

    • FMLA Continues to Challenge Employers

      Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) compliance remains a perennial concern among employers, a July Littler Mendelson survey report shows.

      Nearly 70 percent of employers surveyed said they were concerned with employees abusing the FMLA and similar laws, and intermittent leave and controlling employee leave abuse were identified in a 2013 survey sponsored by the Disability Management Employer Coalition and Spring Consulting Group as the top two leave-related challenges for employers.

    • Most 401(k) Participants Favor Auto Escalation

      Sponsors reluctant to automatically raise worker’s contributions might want to reconsider

      Benefit managers still reluctant to automatically escalate employees’ 401(k) contributions should consider this: 55 percent of defined contribution plan participants say they would favor automatic annual increases to their contributions, according to recent survey by OneAmerica, a nationwide network of financial services providers.

      One of SKCHRA’s 2014 Workforce Readiness and Diversity Inclusion initiatives is to support the Society for Human Resource Management in the belief that government and employers play a role in providing training and development opportunities to the unemployed.   

      The SKCHRA needs HR professionals’ expertise to serve on employment informational panels, assist with recruiting, hiring and/or networking events; conduct mock interviews; review and critique job seeker resumes; and provide coaching to employment candidates.
