July 2012 President's Letter

    President’s Letter

In the Field of Dreams, they say “if you build it, they will come!”  So I wonder if it’s the same for the sun.  If we all will it, maybe we’ll see if for more than a half day.  I personally think that our lack of sunshine and the dismal weather we are experiencing has played a part in the number and quality of candidates applying to fill open positions lately.  Applicants seem to be lethargic, somewhat lifeless and lack confidence.  I don’t know if any of you are experiencing the same issue, but once where we had more than enough candidates in a downed market, we are trying to sift through the minutia to fill our openings.  With summer only a few days away, let’s hope that there is not only a shift in the weather, but a shift in the candidate pool as well.  Happy Summer to all of you.

The SHRM Foundation is looking for your help.  They are trying to get more Chapter members involved in the Foundation and specifically in the areas that affect you.  They have created a form that allows you to target specific areas that may be of interest to you.  If you have been one of those individuals that from time to time wonder how things are done, don’t want to sit on the sidelines anymore and want to serve in a capacity that may help to affect change, go to the SHRM website, print off, complete and return the Get Involved Form today and volunteer.  You can help to make a difference.

Just a reminder to you as well, our own Chapter is looking for opportunities where we can reach out and help in our own community.  Please call me or e-mail me your suggestions…rhondak@southlakeclinic.com

We only have one more meeting on July 19th before we take a break in August.  Chapter members, please remember to visit our website www.skchra.shrm.org today and sign up to attend the “Day at the Races” event on August 9th.  This is our way of saying thanks to you for designating and supporting our Chapter all these years.  It’s members like you that make this Chapter a success.  Thank you and we hope to see you there!

Until then, stay positive and when you can….pay it forward.  See you at the meeting!

I’m off in search of some coffee!!
