Presidents's Letter: April 2012

    President’s Letter

As I started writing this letter I realized that today is the first day of spring. I guess it truly does come in like a lion!! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to put the umbrella away and enjoy a little sunshine!

It has been such a pleasure to see new faces at our Chapter meetings, especially since we are trying to grow our membership this year. With new members and a larger Chapter, the expertise just continues to grow for all of you to tap into. I believe our profession experienced many setbacks when the economy dipped in 2008 and it looks like things are finally starting to take a turn. Openings are increasing and our Chapter doesn’t seem to have as many unemployed HR professionals as in the past.

If you are searching for a position or looking to hire some of the incredible talent that is out there, please send us your information for the Job Bank or visit to see what is currently available. We will post openings as soon as they are received. One of the benefits of belonging to the Chapter is the incredible networking opportunity that we all have.

Speaking of networking… last October, we hosted an event at the Embassy Suites where we provided food and beverages for Chapter members and their guests. Unfortunately, we picked a night when most of you were attending a seminar! We’ll be careful not to do that this year so that you can attend and exchange business cards and ideas with fellow Chapter members or just enjoy a nice glass of wine and relax! Watch for the date to be announced soon!

Can we say without a shadow of a doubt that employees today appear to be ‘sue happy’? There have been so many cases in the past year where HR Managers and staff have been deposed. If you are facing such a situation, there is a good article available on the SHRM website that can assist you, with your attorney present, in preparing for the inevitable deposition. Under publication and the Legal tab, the article is entitled The HR Managers Deposition and is written by Jim Thelan. It’s a great place to start if this is your first time in court. I have not yet had the pleasure…knock on wood, but I thought I would look out for my fellow Chapter members! Lol 

I hope to see many of you at the dinner meeting on April 19th. Harry Franzheim is very knowledgeable in the area of HR and his presentations are usually fun! No pressure Harry if you read this!!

Until then, stay positive and when you can….pay it forward. See you at the meeting!

    Chapter President
